How do I apply for a classic bank account?

If the bank is located near where you live or work, you can visit the branch in person. You may need the following documents: a driver's license, passport, Medicare card, Tax file number (TFN) or exemption code, or other bank account statements.

Many banks in Australia allow you to apply for a bank account online through their website. Just visit its website and look for "Open an Account" or "Apply Now" buttons. You will be required to select the account, provide details in the application and download your documents (a driver's license or passport, utility bills, etc.).
