If you've just received a new Westpac debit or credit card, you’ll need to activate it before you can use it. Westpac provides several easy options to do this—via the mobile app, online banking, or by phone. Below are the confirmed and current methods and steps.

How to Activate a Westpac Debit or Credit Card

  • Using the Westpac Mobile App: Open the app, use the “Activate card” option (you might need to search for “Activate card”). Enter your card number, tap Activate, and optionally set your PIN.
  • Using Online Banking (Desktop or Web): Log in, go to Services or Card Services, choose “Activate physical card,” enter your card details and activate. You may also set your PIN if required.
  • By Phone: Call Westpac on 1300 308 930 to activate your card with help from customer service.
  • For Business Cards: If it’s a business debit or credit card, you may need to switch to your personal profile in Westpac’s app or online banking before activating.

What You’ll Need to Activate

  • Your card’s number and expiry date.
  • Your Westpac customer ID and online banking password or app credentials.
  • If setting a PIN, have your chosen PIN ready.

Additional Details

  • No activation is needed for certain digital-only or PartPay cards.
  • Make sure the app is updated to the latest version if you’re using the Mobile App.
  • You may need to sign the back of the physical card once you have it.
