If you want to cash or deposit a Westpac cheque, here’s a complete guide on how to do it through a branch or mobile app, including fees, overdraft options, and chequebook ordering.

Cashing and Depositing Westpac Cheques

A client can make cashing cheques of Westpac at the bank’s branch; just take your identity document (such as a passport or driver's licence).

You can also make a Westpac cheque deposit via the Westpac mobile application. To do so, follow these steps:

  • Enter the app
  • Click “Self serve” > “Account services” > “Cheque deposit”
  • Input the cheque sum and choose the deposited account
  • Photograph the front and back of the cheque and submit

Deposits via the app are subject to a daily and weekly limit (usually $20,000 over 7 days) and typically clear within 3 business days.

Westpac Bank Cheque Fee

The cost of issuing a bank cheque at Westpac is currently 10 AUD. A dishonour fee of 20 AUD may apply if a cheque does not clear.

Overdraft Option on Cheque Accounts

A client can overdraw his Westpac cheque account if an overdraft option is added. This allows the account to go below zero up to a pre-approved limit.

To order a Westpac chequebook, a client should:

  • Phone 132-142 for business accounts
  • Phone 132-032 for personal accounts
  • Or visit the nearest Westpac branch

Additional Options

Clients may also deposit cheques using Westpac ATMs (up to 40 cheques per transaction), or through cardless deposit in some branches. Cheques are processed according to standard clearing times.
