Westpac NFC Payment App: Seamless Contactless Payments

Westpac offers a secure and convenient way to make contactless payments using your Android device through Google Pay. This mobile wallet service allows you to add your eligible Westpac debit or credit cards to your smartphone, enabling you to make purchases at millions of stores worldwide where contactless payments are accepted.

How to Set Up Google Pay with Westpac

  1. Ensure Your Device is Compatible: Your Android device must be running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher and support Near Field Communication (NFC) and Host Card Emulation (HCE) technology. These features are essential for in-store transactions using Google Pay.
  2. Download Google Pay: Install the Google Pay app from the Google Play Store.
  3. Add Your Westpac Card: Open the Google Pay app and follow the prompts to add your eligible Westpac debit or credit card. Ensure that the name you enter matches exactly as it appears on your physical card or in the Westpac App.
  4. Verify Your Card: For added security, your mobile phone must be registered for SMS Protect to verify the cards you add.

Making Payments with Google Pay

Once your card is added, you can use Google Pay to make contactless payments:

  1. Open Google Pay: Launch the app on your device.
  2. Select Your Card: Choose the card you wish to use for the transaction.
  3. Tap to Pay: Hold your device near the contactless terminal to complete the payment.

Google Pay transactions are secure, as your full card details are never stored on your phone or shared with merchants. Instead, a virtual account number is used to process payments, enhancing your privacy and security.

Additional Features

  • Use on Wearables: Google Pay is supported on compatible devices like Fitbit and Garmin, allowing you to make payments without your phone
  • Digital Card: Access a digital version of your card in the Westpac App, which can be used for online purchases or added to your mobile wallet.
