If you've deposited a cheque into your NAB account, it's important to understand the clearance process to manage your funds effectively.

Cheque Clearance Time at NAB

Generally, it takes up to three business days from the time you deposit a cheque until the proceeds are available as cleared funds in your account. This applies to cheques deposited via various methods, including over the counter, through ATMs, or via mobile cheque deposit using the NAB app. Please note that the exact time may vary depending on factors such as the cheque's origin and the method of deposit.

Mobile Cheque Deposit

If you deposit a cheque before 10:00 PM (AEST/AEDT) on a business day using the NAB mobile app, the cheque will usually clear within three business days from that time. Before the cheque has cleared, you'll be able to see a record of the transaction in your account history the next business day. After depositing the cheque, it's important to keep the physical cheque for 10 business days, as NAB may request the physical cheque during this time.

Special Clearance

In certain circumstances, you may request a special clearance for a cheque. This process can expedite the availability of funds, but it's subject to NAB's policies and may involve additional fees. For more information on special clearance options, it's advisable to contact NAB directly or visit a local branch.

Additional Information

  • Even though your account will be immediately credited with the proceeds of the cheque, you may not be able to withdraw the value of a cheque until it has cleared.
  • Cheques deposited after 10:00 PM (AEST/AEDT) or on non-business days will be processed on the next business day, and the clearing time will commence from that point.
  • For cheques deposited at Australia Post, please allow up to eight business days for clearance.

If you have further questions or need assistance with cheque deposits, please contact NAB at 13 22 65 or visit your nearest branch.
