Looking to use Tap & Pay with Commonwealth Bank? Here’s everything you need to know about how it works, setup steps, limits, and troubleshooting.
What Is Tap & Pay in CommBank?
CommBank Tap & Pay allows customers to make contactless card payments using their Android phone via the CommBank app. Purchases under AUD 100 typically do not require entering a PIN at the terminal.
Eligibility and Requirements
To use Tap & Pay, you must have a compatible NFC-enabled Android device (running Android 4.4 or higher), an eligible CommBank debit or credit card linked to a current account, and the latest version of the CommBank app installed.
How to Set Up Tap & Pay
Sign in to the CommBank app, tap the Tap & Pay icon, select your preferred tap style—Wake & Tap, Unlock & Tap, or Open & Tap—then choose the card you want to use.
Tap & Pay Limits and Security
The default transaction limit for Tap & Pay is AUD 100 without PIN. For amounts above that, some terminals may prompt for PIN or biometric authentication, depending on the merchant's terminal settings.
What to Do If Tap & Pay Isn't Working
If Tap & Pay fails, try updating or reinstalling the CommBank app, remove and re-add your eligible card in the Tap & Pay settings, or contact CommBank support for assistance.
